The Men in Blue became the first team to qualify for the semi-final of the ongoing World Cup 2023. The Indian team who is also hosting the mega event is still unbeaten after participating in eight games, standing at the top of the table. Even after they have a fixed spot on the points table, people are still unaware of where Rohit Sharma’s team will play their semi-final game.
The first-ranked team is set to play the team who is at the fourth spot in the first semi-final in Mumbai but things will become unusual if Pakistan clinches the bottom spot among the four semifinalists.
Ahead of the mega event, the ICC and BCCI decided following a request by the PCB that If Pakistan qualify for the semis, they will play in Kolkata, owing to security concerns.
The iconic Eden Gardens is originally set to conduct the second semifinal between the second and third-placed teams on the points table. If India and Pakistan seal the first and fourth position respectively, the ground will be hosting the first semifinal which is scheduled for November 15. In that case, the second semifinal of the World Cup will be taking place in the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The cricket board of Pakistan earlier came up with a request to the organizers not to organise any of the team’s games in the city of Mumbai. The Men in Green under the leadership of Babar Azam have played all of their league stage games across five of the 10 venues at the World Cup including Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Kolkata. As far as the points table is concerned, the Indian team is placed at the top of the table followed by the teams like South Africa and Australia. Teams like New Zealand and Pakistan are standing at the fourth and fifth spots respectively.
