‘Sardar Of Commentary Box’: Navjot Singh Sidhu Set For Comeback To Cricket Broadcasting In IPL 2024

Navjot Singh Sidhu, former cricketer-turned-politician, is set to return to the commentary box for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, as announced by the Star Sports Network on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). For those unversed, during the initial years of the IPL, Navjot Singh Sidhu was part of the expert panel for Sony Sports Network. In addition, he was also one of the commentators for live cricket action.

Sidhu has joined the illustrious commentary team of IPL’s official television broadcasters, Star Sports, adding to the excitement among fans as they eagerly anticipate his return to the commentary box. 

On Tuesday, Star Sports announced via a post on X that Sidhu would serve as a commentator for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), set to commence on March 22. 

“A wise man once said, “Hope is the biggest ‘tope’”
And this wise man, the great @sherryontopp himself, has joined our Incredible StarCast,” read the caption of the post.

Furthermore, a text in the picture accompanying the post reads “Sardar of commentary box”.

‘Cricket Is My First Love’

Sidhu expressed his enthusiasm for his commentary comeback, emphasizing that cricket is his passion. He likened his return to commentary to a natural instinct, stating that he would take to it effortlessly, much like a fish to water.

“Boss, cricket is my first love. If your hobby becomes your profession there is nothing better than that. A duckling would never forget how to swim, I will take to commentary like a fish takes to water,” said Sidhu in an interview with PTI.

The opening match of IPL 2024 featuring Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is set to commence at 8:00 pm IST at the MA Chidambaram International Cricket Stadium in Chennai on March 22.
