RCB vs PBKS HIGHLIGHTS: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 faceoff at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday. Bengaluru won the toss and elected to bowl first as PBKS posted 176/6 in what did not seem like a typical Chinnaswamy venue. In response, Bengaluru reached their target with 4 balls to spare.
While it was Shikhar Dhawan who top-scored for PBKS with 45 from 37 balls, it was really the impetus that Shashank Singh provided them towards the backend of their innings that helped them get to the total. Shashank remained unbeaten on 21 off 8 deliveries. In the run chase, Virat Kohli could have been out for a duck had a catch off the second ball of the innings been taken by Jonny Bairstow in the slips. However, that bell went for four and Kohli scored three more boundaries in the same Sam Curran over to make his intentions clear.

Kohli helped his side off to a blazing start and then when wickets fell at the other end, batted through the middle overs before unleashing his range of strokes to keep Bengaluru in the game. However, in the end he couldn’t finish the innings for his side, falling for 77 off 49. It was then that Dinesh Karthik produced a clinical finish to help the franchise continue the trend of matches being won by home teams so far in the competition.
Karthik remained unbeaten on 28 off 10 and finished the match with a boundary as RCB beat PBKS by 4 wickets and 4 balls remaining. Other notable contributions from RCB came from their bowlers with Mohammed Siraj’s 2/26 standing out. Yash Dayal was superb as well as he picked 1/23 and Glenn Maxwell may have got out for 3 with the bat but scalped 2/29 off his 2 overs.
For Punjab, Harpreet Brar and Kagiso Rabada fought hard but couldn’t help their team win. Brar produced one of the best spells by a spinner at Chinnaswamy, conceding 13 off his 4 overs and getting the wickets of Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell while Rabada removed Faf du Plessis and Cameron Green, giving away 23 runs off his 4 overs. Overall though, Punjab couldn’t stop Bengaluru to get past their total.
