Arundhati Reddy, DC Star, Fined For Breaching WPL Code

Bengaluru: Delhi Capitals’ pacer Arundhati Reddy has incurred a 10 per cent match fee fine for breaching the code of conduct during the Women’s Premier League (WPL) match against UP Warriorz at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The incident occurred during Delhi Capitals’ convincing nine-wicket victory on Monday, where the 26-year-old bowler contributed with a wicket.

According to a WPL statement, Reddy admitted to a Level 1 Offence under Article 2.5 of the WPL’s Code of Conduct. This particular breach pertains to the use of language, actions, or gestures that disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon her dismissal during a match. The statement emphasized that, for Level 1 breaches, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding, providing no further details about the incident.

The WPL statement concluded without providing further details about the specific nature of Arundhati Reddy’s on-field conduct that led to the fine. 

Delhi Capitals Cruise To Win Over UP Warriorz

In the match against UP Warriorz, Arundhati Reddy claimed the wicket of lower-order batter Poonam Khemnar, contributing to the team’s strong bowling performance, led by Radha Yadav, who returned with impressive figures of 4/20. The Warriorz were restricted to 119/9 with Marizanne Kapp emerging as the pick of the bowlers for DC, finishing with 3 wickets for 5 runs. She bowled 4 overs on the trot with the new ball to jolt UP Warriorz’ top order. 

In response, DC chased down the target comfortably, reaching the winning score of 120 for the loss of just one wicket in 14.4 overs. Openers Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma played crucial roles, with Lanning scoring 51 runs and Verma remaining unbeaten on 64.

Delhi’s next game will be up against Royal Challengers Bangalore on February 29. On the other hand, UP Warriorz, who have now lost two matches in a row, will face Mumbai Indians in their next encounter on February 28 (Wednesday).
