The spotlight was on India when they locked horns against New Zealand in the first semi-final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The reason was simple- India’s failure to win a single world title in the last 10 years and their inability to cross the semifinal barrier in the previous two editions. Moreover, it was the same team against them who had knocked them out of the same stage in 2019.
That meant the team could have easily bogged down under pressure but not this team under Rohit Sharma. After electing to bat first, Rohit ensured that he himself sets the tone for the rest of the team, smashing two beautiful fours in the first over. He made sure that everyone in the dressing room gets calmed, given that he had put the pressure back on the opposition, helping the side off to a blistering start along with Shubman Gill.
In a particular instance during his impactful 47 off 29, Harsha Bhogle added a tinge of humour to the situtaion when describing the passage of play and the message that he would perhaps be sending back to the boys in the dressing room, he said: “Hold my vada pav, maybe.”
The video of Bhogle’s one-liner has gone viral on social media.
Take a look at it and a few reactions on it below:
