The International Cricket Council (ICC) men’s Cricket World Cup trophy arrived at the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) stadium, Barsapara in Guwahati, on Wednesday.

The trophy was unveiled by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) joint secretary Devajit Saikia, ACA president Taranga Gogoi, and ACA secretary Tridib Konwar in the presence of the ACA apex council members. Former cricketers and cricket enthusiasts were also present during the unveiling at the auditorium of the 91 Yards Club on the premises of the ACA stadium, a press statement read.

Saikia said it was a proud moment for Guwahati to host the prestigious trophy. He said that the World Cup trophy had travelled across 18 countries after it made a trip to space. “No trophy has travelled this far. We are extremely honoured and excited to have the trophy in Guwahati,” Saikia said.

Speaking about the warm-up World Cup matches to be played in Guwahati, Saikia said the main venue and the training facilities are already ready to be used.

Guwahati will host four matches, involving India, England, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. Saikia informed that the teams will start training at the annexe ground of the ACA stadium, Barsapara and at the Amingaon cricket ground on September 28. He further said that Sri Lanka will face Bangladesh at the ACA stadium, Barsapara on September 29.

The ticket prices have been fixed at Rs 200, for the students, Rs 300, Rs 500, Rs 700 and Rs 1000, it said.

The 13th edition of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is scheduled to be hosted in India between October 5, 2023 and November 19, 2023. Though the tournament was originally scheduled to be played between February and March 2023, it had to be postponed due to restrictions necessitated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Altogether 10 nations will vie for the trophy. It will be the first time that India will solely host the tournament though it has earlier co-hosted the 1987, 1996 and 2011 editions with other countries of the Indian subcontinent.

The final match is scheduled to be played at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on November 19, 2023, while the two semi-finals will be played at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium and Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
