IND vs PAK, Asia Cup 2023 Super Four: While cricket fans in India were expecting an action-packed Sunday at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, what they did witness was a positive start by the Indian openers after which Pakistan bowlers made in a couple of early inroads after which rain came in and made no further play possible. 24.1 overs of Indian innings was made possible on September 10 (Sunday) and at this point, the Indian scoreboard read 147/2.
What that essentially means though that with a reserve day in place for this IND vs PAK fixture, the match will now resume tomorrow at 03:00 pm (IST). The other big news is that no overs will be reduced and it remains a 50-overs per side contest. Having said that, the weathe report in Colombo for the reserve day doens’t look too promising either with chances of rain even on Monday (September 11) and so it would be interesting to see what eventually happens in this match.
For the unversed, this is the second time an India vs Pakistan match was played in this continental tournament after their group-stage face off at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. However, even in that match rain had played a spoilsport and teams were ultimately forced to share points with only the Indian innings possible as they posted 266 after electing to bat first. There was no reserve day in place for that match.
Teams would well be forced to share points in case rain comes back tomorrow. Pakistan have already started off their Super Fours campaign with a win over Bangladesh while this is India’s first match in this round of the continental tournament. This match seeping into Reserve Day also means India will now have two matches in two days with India’s match against Sri Lanka scheduled on September 12.
