Team India have suffered a massive injury scare ahead of their semifinal clash in the World Cup 2023. In their final league match against the Netherlands at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, their new ball bowler Mohammed Siraj, while trying to take a catch, injured himself. The ball burst through his hands and hit him in the throat area, following which he had to leave the field. Siraj was stationed at long-on in the 15th over of the innings in the bowling of Kuldeep Yadav when the incident happened.
While no official confirmation on the nature of Siraj’s injury has yet come from official sources, in case it is a serious one, it will be a massive blow to Team India who will be playing their semifinal against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday (November 15). With a short turnaround between the two teams, chances of recovering from anything a bit serious would be pretty less and India wouldn’t want such a scenario which will force them to break their winning combination and leaving out a bowler in good form.
Talking about the IND vs NED match, India won the toss and elected to bat first in Bengaluru. Riding on half-centuries from Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and hundreds from Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul helped them post 410/4. In response, Siraj gave India an early breakthrough to India before the Dutch batters showed some resolve before the injury incident happened. Later in the match with Siraj off the field, Kohli rolled his arms over.
It is not clear whether it was to compensate for the overs that Siraj won’t be able to bowl, in case, he cannot return. He has bowled 4 overs 1 for 24 in the match. Kohli even managed to take a wicket off his second over, much to the delight of a packed Chinnaswamy stadium.
