Jaiswal Gets Tips From Kohli, Ashwin In First Net Session With Team India Before WTC Final

The last two months have been nothing short of a dream come true for Yashasvi Jaiswal. While the youngster had a breakthrough season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) playing for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and was eventually adjudged the Emerging Player of the Year, more good news followed shortly after with the left-hander getting a national call-up for the national team as a back-up opener for the ICC Men’s World Test Championship final. Notably, Jaiswal scored 625 runs in 14 matches at an average of 48 and a strike rate of 163. Such was his dominance in IPL 2023 that he scored at a quicker tempo than one of the finest T20 players in world cricket Jos Buttler.

Despite Jaiswal’s efforts with the bat, the inaugural champions could not secure a place for themselves in Playoffs. However, the fact that he did take a massive step closer to his dream of playing for India would have acted like a balm on his wounds as he will now be in the stand by and has even joined the Indian players in UK prior to the WTC final against Australia. On Wednesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) shared a video of Jaiswal’s first-ever net session with the senior men’s national team.

While the batter looked impressive in the nets, he even shared a moment with the senior India batter Virat Kohli who appeared to pass on some knowledge to the youngster as was senior spinner and RR teammate Ravichandran Ashwin. The video shared by the ICC has quickly gone viral on social media.

Jaiswal was announced as a replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad who informed that he won’t be able to travel with the Indian players as a reserve player as he is set to get married on June 3.
