Ex India all-rounder Sridharan Sriram has joined Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as an assistant coach ahead of IPL 2024. While former Australian opener Justin Langer was appointed as the head coach of the team recently, Sriram’s appointment essentially means that the duo will get to work together again after having worked in Australian national team setup recently.

It is pertinent to note that Sriram had joined Australia’s coaching setup as a spin-bowling coach in the year 2016. By the time his six-year stint with the team came to an end, he was an assistant coach for the Kangaroos. With Langer and him in charge of the coaching duties, Australia went on to lift the T20 World Cup in 2021 as well as the Ashes in 2021-22.

Sriram, an ECB level-3 coach, previously served as the spin-bowling coach for the Royal Challengers Bangalore until the IPL 2023 season. In the previous year, Bangladesh enlisted him as a technical consultant for both the 2022 Asia Cup and T20 World Cup, where he also took on the role of de facto head coach for their T20I squad.

The Super Giants franchise has now finalized its support staff with the addition of Sriram, according to a press release. In addition to Langer and Sriram, the team has appointed Vijay Dahiya as the assistant coach, Morne Morkel as the bowling coach, Pravin Tambe as the spin-bowling consultant, and Jonty Rhodes as the fielding coach. Gautam Gambhir serves as the global mentor, and MSK Prasad holds the position of overall strategic consultant.

Super Giants have participated in two IPL seasons to date after participating in the competition for the first time last year. They have made it to the playoffs on both occasions but have not managed to feature in the summit clash as yet.
