National Sports Day: PM Modi, Amit Shah Among Others Pay Homage To Major Dhyan Chand

National Sports Day 2023: 29 August is a special day for the sports fraternity in India. The day is celebrated each year to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend Dhyan Chand. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led wishes on this occasion, also paying tribute to the hockey player who in many ways was India’s first global hockey star. PM Modi wishes all sportsperson on this day while remembering Dhyan Chand.

He took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to write: “On National Sports Day, my greetings to all sportspersons. India is proud of their contributions to the nation. I pay homage to Major Dhyan Chand Ji as well on his birth anniversary.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah conveyed his wishes to all countrymen on the occasion. On micro-blogging site X, he wrote: “Best wishes to all the countrymen on ‘National Sports Day’. Salute to ‘Major Dhyanchand ji’ on his birth anniversary who surprised the whole world with his talent. The bravery, courage and skill of Major Dhyanchand ji took Indian sports to new heights. His unparalleled dedication towards hockey will always inspire generations to come.”




Minister of Sports and Home Affairs Anurag Thakur also took to social media to share his greetings on the day. He paid a visit at National Stadium, Delhi to pay his tributes to the hockey wizard. Meanwhile, he also declared that he will be announcing the launch of key initiatives on Indian sports from 01:45 pm onwards.

Hockey India and Indian Army were some of the others who conveyed their wishes on National Sports Day 2023.
