Former India great Sunil Gavaskar who is considered as one of the greatest batters of all time, has turned 74 on July 10, Monday. Social Media is buzzing with a lot of wishes for the legend but one wish that hogged all the limelight was from the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin took to his social media handle to wish the Little Master and wrote,  “Happy birthday to my batting idol, the man we all wanted to bat like while growing up. Happy birthday, Gavaskar sir!”.

Gavaskar was a part of the Indian team that won the World Cup in 1983 under the leadership of Kapil Dev. At one point in time, Sunil even held the record for making the most centuries in Tests. The Mumbai-based batter who collected more than 10,000 runs in red-ball cricket, announced his retirement after smashing 45 half-centuries and 34 centuries against his name.

Back in March 1987, Gavaskar scripted history after he became the first player to make 10,000 Test runs. By the time, he bid adieu to the game, he had made 10,122 runs.  In his career, Gavaskar played 108 ODIs also where he gathered 3092 runs under his belt.

Gavaskar made a mark for himself during his debut series against the West Indies where he got 774 runs against the lethal pace attack of West Indies. This still remains to be the highest runs collected by anyone in their debut series. He also has the most red ball centuries while playing against the West Indies, scoring 13 from 27 matches. As most of us know Gavaskar was a legendary batter, only a few are aware of his fielding skills. He was a handy fielder as well as he had taken 108 catches in his Test career.
