West Indies All-Rounder Yannic Cariah Sustains Facial Fracture Ahead Of CWC Qualifier

West Indies all-rounder Yannic Cariah has suffered a nasal fracture after being hit in the face at a training session before the Crcket World Cup qualifier. The incident happened the cricketer received a blow during the side’s preparations of the competition happening in Zimbabwe. It is being learned that the all-rounder will continue to remain in Zimbabwe and a medical assessment of his condition will be done in the coming days. 

This could be a massive blow to the two-time World Cup winners especially because Cariah had been in great form in the CWC Qualifier Warm-up games. While he had finished with figures of 4/46 against Scotland, he produced another memorable performance against UAE where he once again picked four wickets.

Cricket West Indies wishes  Cariah a speedy recovery in one of their official social media posts.

Since making his debut against New Zealand in August 2022, the 30-year-old has made his presence felt for the side and has been asset overall. He has played eight ODIs but brings rich level of experience of playing domestic cricket in the Caribbean. The leg-spinner had also troubled the Aussies who were gearing up for an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at home. However, those two happen be his only two T20I appearances so far.

Other than his ability with the ball, Cariah is also a more than handy with the bat and has chipped with valuable runs from lower down the order. With the Men from the Caribbean  looking to seal one of the two spots remaining for the ICC Men’s World Cup in India in October-November this year.

West Indies will begin their World Cup qualifying campaign against USA on the CWC qualifier opening day on June 18. They will then face Nepal, Zimbabwe and the Netherlands in what appears to be a tough Group A.
