The Indian team will be playing Nepal in their upcoming clash of the Asia Cup 2023 Group A fixture at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele on Monday. The Men in Blue have not secured a win in this campaign after their opening game against Pakistan was washed out. After opting to bat first, India’s top order collapsed and they were restricted to 266 in 48.5 overs. But then since rain played spoilsport, the second innings could not happen. Openers Rohit and Gil were dismissed for 11 and 10 respectively. Rohit got snared by Shaheen Shah Afridi and Gill was dismissed by Haris Rauf.

Shaheen also removed Virat Kohli for four runs off seven deliveries. Shreyas Iyer who was making his comeback was also sent to the pavilion for 14 off nine balls by Rauf. It was Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya who revived India’s innings with gritty knocks, missing out on centuries. Kishan smashed 82 runs off 81 balls, laced with nine fours and two sixes. Meanwhile, Pandya collected 87 runs off 90 deliveries, including seven fours and a maximum.

Talking about the upcoming game, Nepal are at the bottom of Group A after losing their opening game against Pakistan. The Indian team is likely to go with Rohit and Shubman as openers. Virat will bat at number 3 as he only needs 98 to complete 13,000 ODI runs.

Shreyas Iyer who failed in his comeback game is likely to retain his spot. Kishan and Pandya will be the backbone for India in the middle order. In the bowling department, Siraj, Shardul and Mohammed Shami will likely to play the game against Nepal. Shami who missed out on playing the previous game will likely to replace Jasprit Bumrah.

India’s predicted XI vs Nepal: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan (W/K), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami.
