After making her international debut at the age of 12, Mahika Gaur on Friday scripted history after making her debut for the second time. She made her debut for England as they took on Sri Lanka in a T20I game. Mahika who is a left-arm pacer managed to claim her first international wicket after she dismissed Chamari Athapaththu.

After batting first, the English team posted a huge total of 186 runs with Danielle Wyatt and Alice Capsey being the architects with the bat. In reply, Sri Lanka were reeling at 55/3 in 6 overs when rain played spoilsport in the match. As per the DLS method, England were declared winners by 12 runs.

Hailing Mahika’s performance, English skipper Heather Knight said, “Mahika was brilliant on her debut. She had to move to death bowling after the rain and she executed her plan perfectly. At that height she gets real late swing which is quite a weapon.”

Mahika is a huge fan of MS Dhoni and Mitchell Starc and she wants to win games for her team like former India skipper MS Dhoni. Mahika who was born in south England, opted to pursue cricket on a professional front after an IPL game in Jaipur back in 2011. The great spider Shane Warne was the top performer in the  Royals’ match against the Delhi Daredevils (Delhi Capitals).

“I was practising bowling in the garden. I think my dad was just surprised that I could roll my arm fully without chucking the ball,” Gaur had said.

“He was a left-arm bowler in college but never got to do his cricket thing. But when he saw that I have potential, he’s always been on board.”

After Mahika’s family shifted to Dubai, she took admission in the ICC Academy and met UAE player Chaya Mughal.

“The first time I went into ICC [Academy], she was training indoors and the coach over there, Adnan [Sabri] sir said that I can bowl to her.

“I was bowling loopy full tosses and she was defending them. She was the first person I bowled to there and I was star-struck. My dad told me she’s from the UAE national team – that was pretty cool,” Mahika added.

So far in her career, Mahika has played a total of 20 T20Is, picking up a total of 10 wickets with a best of 3 for 21.
