During the ICC Cricket World Cup semi-final held at Wankhede in Mumbai, a memorable moment unfolded as Indian captain Rohit Sharma and English football legend David Beckham shared an encounter. Beckham posted a photo on Facebook, donning a Team India jersey with Rohit’s name and number 45, while Rohit sported Beckham’s Real Madrid number 23 shirt.

The standout moment between Rohit and Beckham occurred when the football ace presented the Indian cricket team captain with the renowned all-white Real Madrid kit. The jersey had Beckham’s name and his famous number 23, reminiscent of his time at Los Blancos. Additionally, as the co-owner of Inter Miami, Beckham wrote a heartfelt message on the back of the Madrid jersey for Rohit Sharma and his family.

The message conveyed: “With love to your family,” accompanied by the autograph of the former England international. Rohit, on his part, gifted Beckham with the Indian team’s cricket jersey. The jersey had Rohit’s name on it with the 45 on the back.

In Beckham’s Facebook post, he expressed his pleasure in meeting Rohit and wished him luck for the final, saying, “Great to meet you captain Good luck in the final Rohit Sharma Indian Cricket Team.”

David Beckham In India On Three-Day Visit

Beckham, who is on a three-day visit to India as UNICEF’s Goodwill Ambassador, attended the thrilling India vs New Zealand World Cup 2023 semi-final at Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. The International Cricket Council (ICC) and UNICEF have joined hands to promote gender equality and inclusion through cricket.

Recognized as one of the finest opening batsmen, Rohit Sharma boasts 18,192 runs in 461 international matches, including 45 centuries and 100 fifties. His tally includes 10,662 runs in 261 ODIs, with 31 centuries and 55 fifties with 579 international sixes, the most by any batsman. 

Beckham, a legendary footballer, represented England in over 100 matches from 1996 to 2009. He played for renowned clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and LA Galaxy, winning prestigious titles such as the Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1, and UEFA Champions League.

India’s commanding victory over New Zealand in the semi-final at Wankhede Stadium marked their 10th consecutive win in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, showcasing their dominance and consistency as they advanced to the final. India won the semi-final clash on the back of centuries by Virat Kohli’s and Shreyas Iyer’s and an exceptional bowling performance by Mohammed Shami, who took seven wickets.
