On Saturday, October 14, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was witness to a tremendous display of national fervour as India squared off against Pakistan in Match 12 of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Amid a festive atmosphere, Indian fans passionately cheered for their favorite players, singing patriotic slogans like ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Chak De India.’ The excitement reached its peak when Shreyas Iyer clinched India’s victory with a boundary off Mohammad Nawaz.
The cricket enthusiasts couldn’t contain their emotions, and videos of over a hundred thousand people singing “Vande Mataram” at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad quickly went viral on social media.

Interestingly, despite a lack of pre-match buzz in Ahmedabad, it was revealed that all tickets had been sold months in advance. On the match day, it became evident that the majority of the crowd, exceeding one hundred thousand people, had come from various parts of the country to be part of this spectacular event.
Pakistan Coach Mickey Arthur didn’t seem particularly impressed with the overwhelming support that the Indian team received, as there was a noticeable absence of support for the Pakistan team.
“It didn’t seem like an ICC event tonight, it seemed like a BCCI event. I didn’t hear ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’ coming through the mics too often. I won’t use this as an excuse”, Arthur expressed in the post-match press conference.
On the field, India won the toss and chose to bowl in this highly anticipated showdown, ultimately asserting their dominance over Pakistan with their bowling performance. India clinched a resounding victory over their arch-rivals in a match that was largely one-sided.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma played a pivotal role, delivering a magnificent innings of 86 runs and steering his team to comfortably chase down Pakistan’s modest total of 192. India’s bowlers, including Bumrah, Siraj, Kuldeep, Pandya, and Jadeja, displayed relentless precision as they dismantled Pakistan’s batting lineup, restricting them to a mere 191 runs.
Despite a solid start, led by Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan, Pakistan failed to capitalise on their strong foundation. This victory marked India’s eighth consecutive win over Pakistan in the World Cup, highlighting their continued supremacy in this Indo-Pak clash.
